ESL KIDS GAMES: a go-to website for quick online and interactive games!

ESL KIDS GAMES

INTRODUCTION:

I’m sure that most ESL teachers who love interactive activities have come across this website. To be honest, it is one of my favourites to turn to when I start noticing blank stares and drooping heads, or see that the activity they work on doesn’t simulate them enough.

A typical student’s attention span is about 10-15 min, maybe 6 when it comes to hyperactive ones or kids. On top of that, every person is different and not necessarily mentally prepared to spend the next, let’s say 30 minutes learning about conditionals. Daily distractions such as smartphones and school or home dramas do not help either. That's why, when planning our classes, we should include different strategies that engage students and capture their attention.

Yet, you never know in what state your students will enter the classroom and foresee their reactions to activities you have prepared. These situations force us to improvise and decide on a whim to modify or adjust to the specific moment, which is when this website comes in handy.

WHAT IS IT?

It is a website set up by an ESL teacher from Ireland to share ideas and fun activities with fellow teachers all over the world. The webpage offers us tons of fun activities that encourage students to practice English in an entertaining and motivating way. It has been created with kids and teens in mind, but can be used with students of all ages.

The games and activities are categorized by skills (vocabulary, grammar, speaking) or age (kids, teens, young learners, adults). Apart from online games, you can find interactive board games, classroom tools such as timers, story dice online, scoreboards, and student pickers, you name it. On top of that, there are some great ideas, printable worksheets, and games regarding celebrations such as Halloween, Christmas, or St. Patrick’s Day.
